The South Sulawesi ASIC Ecoshrimp AIP operates in Lanrisang District, Pinrang Regency, and will increase the market recognition of responsible shrimp farming by verifying extensive shrimp farming to the ASIC Shrimp protocol. This will be achieved via a collaboration between local farmers and traders, a processing plant (PT ATINA), and supported by the local department of fisheries (Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan Kabupaten Pinrang).
AIP aims:
- Verify shrimp farming practices to the ASIC Shrimp protocol
- Promote low environmental impact shrimp farming practices that increase social equity by building the capacity of local shrimp farmers
- Promote coordination among farmers to minimize disease risks*
- Promote and develop policies and programs with local government and associated agencies that support local shrimp farmers and communities
*The ASIC Shrimp Protocol under the Shrimp Health Section requires farmers to coordinate and inform neighboring farms if a disease is observed and to develop relevant management actions.

Activities
- Three universities recently joined the AIP
- The AIP continues to develop and implement an AIP work plan to drive further improvements based on the results of the ASIC assessment and views the AIP model as a means to improve the production of clusters of farms.
- The AIP has developed and launched field schools to support farmer meetings focussed on priority cultivation issues.
- The AIP is supporting the inclusion of women from farming families in developing standards and improving community benefits. This included organizing climate adaptation seminars.
- The AIP is incorporating information issued by the climate agency Badan Meteologi, Klimatologi and Geofisika (BMKG) to adapt production in response to climate change.
- The AIP is turning its attention to improving hatchery management and production.
Achievements
Following the publication of the Farmer Guidebook on Management Techniques – on farming of giant tiger prawn (in Bahasa) Budidaya Udang Windu Tradisional (Extensive) – see outputs
- Two hatcheries have received ASIC certification
- All farms under the AIP have received ASIC certification
- This meant the AIP advanced to stage 4 – improvements in aquaculture management
