Multiple members of a producer organization and processors are working towards a common outcome that also addresses public water quality and community engagement.
The farms are working towards full ASC certification over a three-year period, addressing all areas of improvement identified in a recent gap analysis against the ASC Shrimp standard.
The farmers are supported by their lead partners and the improvements implemented by the local consultant YSAI. Both implementers and partners were trained by ASC on the ASC Improvement Program (ASC IP) requirements and the ASC Shrimp Standard.

Farms have made the following actions as identified in their improvement plan:
- Farms have assessed their compliance with all the legally required permits and ensured that they hold these.
- Adjustments have been made to the farms’ standard operating procedures (SOP)
- Farms have undergone Biodiversity Environmental Impact Assessments (BEIA) and Participatory Social Impact Assessments (PSIA) to understand the social and environmental impact of farm operations.
Constraints
- One farm faced issues in complying with all legal requirements. Following discussions between project partners and farms, the farm decided to leave the project.
- Due to the timeline of the project, farms have now prioritized improvements based on their level of urgency.
Achievements
- Farms are now in compliance with national legal requirements.
- With the support of the project, farms are now conducting regular water quality monitoring of the shared water body.
- Farms have improved their documentation procedures.
